Ed Carr of La Grange receives the Bill Purcell Spirit of the Legacy Guild Volunteer of the Year Award.

The Legacy Guild ushered in spring in style — with a concert worthy of their cause. On Feb. 28, the group hosted its third annual Big Spring Event at Fitzgerald’s Nightclub in Berwyn.

In addition to the music of popular band Maggie Speaks, the evening featured memorable moments that honored its mission, to fund college scholarships for high school students in Lyons Township District 204 who have lost a parent. A video featured three Legacy Guild scholars and Joan Smothers of La Grange gave a toast in honor of Bill Purcell, who died in 2012 and was one of the inspirations for the Legacy Guild. Ed Carr of La Grange received the Bill Purcell Spirit of the Legacy Guild Volunteer of the Year Award.
