This past Fall, The Legacy Guild kicked off their inaugural Embracing the Struggles Together bereavement support group for local widows and widowers. With the guidance of a certified grief educator, widows and widowers came together in a safe space to discuss topics that only those experiencing grief can understand.
Topics included:
  • the grief journey
  • resiliency
  • coping strategies
  • how to support children
  • managing your finances
  • changes in family dynamics and the new role that they play
  • new rituals and traditions
  • how to find time for yourself
  • the change in friendships
  • how to establish new friendships and more
Registration is now open for a new session which will begin Tuesday, April 2. Information can be found on our website at www.TheLegacyGuild.com
Jody LaVoie, a certified grief educator and widow coach, led the group along with Joyce Fisher. Both women are parents of Legacy Guild Scholars. Jody said, “No one “wants” to attend a grief support group, however, the consensus from the attendees was that they were so grateful that they took the leap to join. All participants left feeling that they now had a support group of other widows who truly understand what they are going through.”
Widows or widowers in the LTHS district with children college age or younger, can register for the upcoming Spring session. The support group will meet in La Grange for 5 sessions. There is no charge. Those interested can send an email to [email protected] or visit the Events tab of our website.
