The Legacy Guild, a local nonprofit, announced it recently awarded an additional $183,125 in college scholarships to 75 students living in Lyons Township District 204 who have lost a parent. Founded in 2012, the local charity has provided nearly $1.3 million in college scholarships given to area students.

Each full-time Legacy Guild Scholar was awarded a $2,500 scholarship renewable for up to four years of undergraduate college – a commitment of up to $10,000 per student.

Legacy Guild Board Member and Scholarship Committee member Andrew James of La Grange said, “What we provide is more than just a monetary gift. Scholars appreciate the networking and mentoring assistance.”

The Legacy Guild serves many communities within District 204. New scholars represent Brookfield, Burr Ridge, Indian Head Park, La Grange, La Grange Highlands, La Grange Park, and Western Springs. The listing of the 2021-2022 recipients can be viewed here.

“We are humbled by the overwhelming generosity and support of our donors, commented Bill Carney, Legacy Guild President. He added, “We will soon be hosting two major fundraisers and are grateful for the support of long-term and new sponsors and attendees.”

One example of an opportunity for Scholars to network is during the annual scholar luncheon which was held on Sunday, June 27, 2021. This event allows scholars to talk with current and past scholars as well as with mentors and Board Members. An additional mentor event for Scholars is planned for August.
