The Legacy Guild awards $215,000 in college scholarships to 86 local students
The Legacy Guild, a local nonprofit, announced it recently awarded $215,000 in college scholarships to 86 students living in Lyons Township District 204 who have had a parent die while being raised in the area.
Each Legacy Guild Scholar was awarded a $2,500 scholarship renewable for up to four years of undergraduate college – a commitment of up to $10,000 per student.
Legacy Guild Scholarship Committee Chair Ned Sher of La Grange said, “What we provide is more than just a monetary gift. Scholars share that the networking and mentoring assistance is also of great value.”
This year’s new Legacy Guild Scholars represent 9 communities including Brookfield, Burr Ridge, Hodgkins, Indian Head Park, La Grange, La Grange Highlands, La Grange Park, and Western Springs. The listing of the 86 recipients can be viewed here.
“We are humbled by the overwhelming generosity and support of our donors, commented Bill Carney, Legacy Guild President. He added, “We host two major fundraisers each year and are grateful by the support of long-term and new sponsors.”
One example of an opportunity to connect is during the annual scholar luncheon which was held on Sunday, June 9, 2019. This event allows scholars to talk with current and past scholars as well as with mentors.
The Legacy Guild has now provided $888,500 in college scholarship awards to 140+ students since its inception in 2012.
